DEBUNKING THE GAMER STIGMA

We are setting out to debunk the gaming myth that gamers sit around playing all day, probably in a basement somewhere, perhaps in a basement belonging to their parents. Not that there’s anything really wrong with that. It’s just that gamers are multi-talented, multi-faceted humans and we want to spread the TRUTH. Meet these multi-talented, multi-faceted goodr Flamboyance Membrs who are also badass gamers:

Rhinofridge
Rockoshocko
Jacethecollector

Royaltnoy
Magiccarpetryde
Teenymeleeny

What's your name? Do you have a gamer name? If so, what is it and why?

Jermain Leon. My gamertag has always been Rhinofridge. I used a random word generator in high school and it stuck.

How long have you been gaming and what does gaming mean to you? (Yes, we can be sentimental too. Style points if we get a little misty-eyed with your answer here...)

I’ve been gaming for 16 years (at least). Gaming to me is doing something that lets you imagine a world different from this one, where you can do amazing crazy things. I feel like gaming is an escape.

How do you spend your time outside (no, mobile gaming doesn't count)?

I mostly like to go hiking and ride my motorcycle.

We’re told health and fitness are important in the pro gaming space. What is your overall health, exercise, and nutrition routine? If you don’t have a routine, per se, what’s the one thing you do to be in top form for competing?

I actually play a lot of VR exercise games daily that make sure I don't cramp up or lock up when I'm sitting down to game. My nutrition routine is basically to drink tea and accidentally forget to eat because I’m so into what I’m doing.

What is one life hack you would like to share with the world? (Don’t have anything revolutionary? No prob. This could be some simple or quirky thing that you do or habit you have that you have to do to be your best.)

A snuggie is the perfect blanket for when it's chilly but you can’t cuddle up cause you're gaming. The arm sleeves let you hold a controller/mouse and keyboard!

What is your favorite song right now that gets you pumped every time either to work out or play games, and why?

I really love “Big Black Truck” by JID

Anything else?

I hope you’re having a great day today. :)

What's your name? Do you have a gamer name? If so, what is it and why?

My name is Erica but I go by RockoShocko on most gaming platforms. My name is Rocko because many years ago, I called my coworker Turk (from Tarzan). We worked at Ultimate Electronics in Phoenix, AZ. He reminded me of Turk with crazy hair and snippy attitude. He was so hilariously offended, he called me Rocko, like the wallaby from Rocko’s Modern Life. (Fun fact, I love cows, iykyk.) So, Rocko kind of stuck. One night, signing up for my first WoW account, I was naming my Dwarf and Rocko just came to mind. Boom. I became RockoShocko circa 2006.

How long have you been gaming and what does gaming mean to you? (Yes, we can be sentimental too. Style points if we get a little misty-eyed with your answer here...)

I first started out with Sims. I was a ranch kid with limited access to many things. When I turned 17, I got my first computer and my grandparents saw Sims next to the register. They thought I would enjoy it after school and riding horses all day. I was sucked in. Playing till 3 in the morning almost daily. Then, I became a scene kid and slowly drifted away until I got a job at Ultimate Electronics. There, I met my future roommates and they introduced me to Wow. Again, I was sucked in. Missing work occasionally because I was stuck in a raid. That’s how it all started.

It was an outlet for me, especially being on my own in my own apartment. Struggling to buy groceries and pay bills, but my best friends and roommates had the internet and spare computers for me to lose myself in. Nothing was better than stepping out of my real life stressful black hole into Azeroth.

How do you spend your time outside (no, mobile gaming doesn't count)?

Now that I’m a stay at home mom, I spend a lot of my time outside either camping, fishing, or exploring during trail runs. My four year old just started soccer so I’m officially a soccer mom. Oooph. 6 years ago I never thought that would be my jam. I preferred to lose myself in Pc, PS4 or Xbox realms. But now I get to share that love with the next generation of hybrid gamers. (Athletic gamers!)

We’re told health and fitness are important in the pro gaming space. What is your overall health, exercise, and nutrition routine? If you don’t have a routine, per se, what’s the one thing you do to be in top form for competing?

I’m actually an aspiring Spartan athlete. I run and lift weights 6 times a week and when I lift, I mean I squat 200 lbs, deadlift 265 and so on. I also eat per macro allotment. I follow macros to keep in top performance shape.

What is one life hack you would like to share with the world? (Don’t have anything revolutionary? No prob. This could be some simple or quirky thing that you do or habit you have that you have to do to be your best.)

I’m pretty quirky and have so many random facts and pieces of irrelevant information but I can never come up with anything on the spot. It’s situational. Ummm there isn’t a cheat code for everything but it doesn’t hurt to try.

What is your favorite song right now that gets you pumped every time either to work out or play games, and why?

Oh man. There are so many. I’m listening to a lot of Nordic metal but also you can’t go wrong with any 80s jams.

Anything else?

Well, I definitely don’t resemble the gamer stereotype. I’m a former bank manager, ranch wrangler, and rodeo queen. I have calluses and black toenails but I can hang in Halo 4. I’m also a HUGE Harry Potter book nerd. I named my houseplant Pomona (Professor Sprout). I’m actually a cat person but I have two dogs (four currently because my grandma's dog and my sister's dog are living at my house) and two cats.

What's your name? Do you have a gamer name? If so, what is it and why?

Jace Delgado, and my gamertag is JaceTheCollector because I'm a collector of Pop Culture items.

How long have you been gaming and what does gaming mean to you? (Yes, we can be sentimental too. Style points if we get a little misty-eyed with your answer here...)

I’ve been gaming since I was ten. Gaming means that I can release myself from the real world. It’s a good way to decompress from the day.

How do you spend your time outside (no, mobile gaming doesn't count)?

I also play golf.

We’re told health and fitness are important in the pro gaming space. What is your overall health, exercise, and nutrition routine? If you don’t have a routine, per se, what’s the one thing you do to be in top form for competing?

Health, eh. Exercise, I thought you meant extra fries. Nutrition, fries? Practice, Practice, Practice.

What is one life hack you would like to share with the world? (Don’t have anything revolutionary? No prob. This could be some simple or quirky thing that you do or habit you have that you have to do to be your best.)

My life hack is to surround yourself in a dark room to collect your thoughts then turn on the lights or open the blinds to get your day started.

What is your favorite song right now that gets you pumped every time either to work out or play games, and why?

Guns N' Roses, “Sweet Child of Mine” right before I play golf. It gets me hyped with that guitar opening.

Anything else?

I'm fun!

What's your name? Do you have a gamer name? If so, what is it and why?

My name is Mitch but I go by TheDisappointingGatsby on Twitch. Most people just call me Gatsby though! I've alway loved the 1920s/art deco aesthetic and The Great Gatsby was one of my favorite books in school. I've never been great at games so I chose a more realistic name for myself.

How long have you been gaming and what does gaming mean to you? (Yes, we can be sentimental too. Style points if we get a little misty-eyed with your answer here...)

I've been gaming since my cousin gave me his SNES (he'd just gotten an N64) back in the 90s. Super Mario World and F-Zero were my favorite games and I still have both of my original carts for it. Next came my Gameboy Color with Pokemon Yellow and the addiction was solidified! Gaming allows me to keep in touch with my oldest friends, make new ones, and my kids are just getting old enough to play Mario so it's giving me extra time with them too.

How do you spend your time outside (no, mobile gaming doesn't count)?

Running, playing hockey, and chasing my kids and dog!

We’re told health and fitness are important in the pro gaming space. What is your overall health, exercise, and nutrition routine? If you don’t have a routine, per se, what’s the one thing you do to be in top form for competing?

I run a decent amount so I don't have to feel too guilty about my sweet tooth! I do my best to stick to running at least 10 miles a week but took this winter off to recover from self-inflicted injuries I picked up from marathon training. I think the most important components to be in top form are sleep and hydration.

What is one life hack you would like to share with the world? (Don’t have anything revolutionary? No prob. This could be some simple or quirky thing that you do or habit you have that you have to do to be your best.)

Not sponsored at all but I can't run without a pair Injinji toe socks on. I bought a pair for fun two years ago and now I have like 2 dozen pairs. My wife says I have a problem.

What is your favorite song right now that gets you pumped every time either to work out or play games, and why?

“Details Matter” by Northlane never fails to help me power up a hill or through my last quarter mile! The song has a lyric I love, "You can't make me disappear. You tried to break me. I'm still here." I'm two years cancer free and that line reminds me of the mental and physical strength it took me to beat cancer and if I can do that, I can do anything.

Anything else?

If any member of the Tampa Bay Lightning sees this, I love you!

What's your name? Do you have a gamer name? If so, what is it and why?

My name is LeRoyal. When I stream most of the time I just answer to Royal. It's easier and still fits with my handle Royal T no Y.

How long have you been gaming and what does gaming mean to you? (Yes, we can be sentimental too. Style points if we get a little misty-eyed with your answer here...)

I've always had a love for video games so I guess since I was a kid when the Playstation 1 came out. It was a way to live in those roles that I loved to watch.

How do you spend your time outside (no, mobile gaming doesn't count)?

I'm super active outside. I like to do flips and tricks and count it as my calisthenics. I'm a stuntman as well so I gotta keep it up.

We’re told health and fitness are important in the pro gaming space. What is your overall health, exercise, and nutrition routine? If you don’t have a routine, per se, what’s the one thing you do to be in top form for competing?

My health is pretty top notch. In the mornings I run about an hour on the treadmill. When it's not cardio I workout while watching anime. I feel it's a good motivator.

What is one life hack you would like to share with the world? (Don’t have anything revolutionary? No prob. This could be some simple or quirky thing that you do or habit you have that you have to do to be your best.)

If you work out with a sauna suit and want a great way to clean it, put it on the floor while you shower, wash yourself first then soap and water your suit and rinse that. Air dry!

What is your favorite song right now that gets you pumped every time either to work out or play games, and why?

“Mayday” by Coldrain.

Anything else?

Resetting your clocks for daylight savings time in October is a waste of time.

What's your name? Do you have a gamer name? If so, what is it and why?

Tamer Elbanhawy. On Xbox I am LegendarySeraph, everywhere else MagicCarpetRyde.

How long have you been gaming and what does gaming mean to you? (Yes, we can be sentimental too. Style points if we get a little misty-eyed with your answer here...)

I've been gaming as long as I can remember-- so close to 30 plus years. I grew up with the Atari and the Intellivision as my base for the love of games. Moving to the Nintendo that just opened my eyes to the world of gaming and always having a place to escape the pressures of the world. Some of my favorite memories of my dad are playing Captain Comic on DOS and us all playing each iteration of Mario and Sonic on both Nintendo and Sega systems.

As I got older gaming served as a means to keep in contact with friends I didn't see often and making new ones. I've been fortunate enough to be able to have played and owned every console up to this most recent generation of PS and Xbox which maybe one day I can obtain. There is a special place for gaming and I will continue to game as long as I am able to.

How do you spend your time outside (no, mobile gaming doesn't count)?

I used to go hiking and workout. I also enjoy eating at restaurants and trying new things in general.

We’re told health and fitness are important in the pro gaming space. What is your overall health, exercise, and nutrition routine? If you don’t have a routine, per se, what’s the one thing you do to be in top form for competing?

I try to stay in shape by doing moderate workouts in my house on my time off. Work and Streaming sometimes doesn't allow for a lot of time but I try to make time for it with body weight exercises and stuff that can be done while gaming. (Kill two birds! lol)

What is one life hack you would like to share with the world? (Don’t have anything revolutionary? No prob. This could be some simple or quirky thing that you do or habit you have that you have to do to be your best.)

Everything I do is a hack. Trying to be the most efficient at things. The fact that I am a functioning adult is the greatest hack of all.

What is your favorite song right now that gets you pumped every time either to work out or play games, and why?

Music always puts me in the feels but currently Chris Isaak “Wicked Game” is on repeat. Such a good song.

Anything else?

I am a huge Batman fan. I’ve been a fan my whole life and the Batman goodr glasses are what got me into the brand! Love them!

What's your name? Do you have a gamer name? If so, what is it and why?

Meleah. My gamer name is Teenymeleeny because I try to keep my gaming life separate from my professional life.

How long have you been gaming and what does gaming mean to you? (Yes, we can be sentimental too. Style points if we get a little misty-eyed with your answer here...)

I’ve been gaming for about ten years. I really got into gaming in high school. I’m not really good at it but it helps me destress.

How do you spend your time outside (no, mobile gaming doesn't count)?

I run, weightlift, play tennis, hike, walk my dogs, kayak. I love being outside!

We’re told health and fitness are important in the pro gaming space. What is your overall health, exercise, and nutrition routine? If you don’t have a routine, per se, what’s the one thing you do to be in top form for competing?

I’ve recently gotten more into fitness. I’ve always been small but I definitely was underweight. Recently I got into HIIT classes and am making sure I’m getting enough nutrition from my food.

What is one life hack you would like to share with the world? (Don’t have anything revolutionary? No prob. This could be some simple or quirky thing that you do or habit you have that you have to do to be your best.)

I wish you could fast travel.

What is your favorite song right now that gets you pumped every time either to work out or play games, and why?

“Body” by Megan Thee Stallion pumps me up every time.

Anything else?

Gamers can be fit too!
