You may not know this, but at goodr our stated purpose as a company is: we exist to give you the permission to be unabashedly yourself…unless you’re an asshole.
We have been an asshole in our silence in the face of countless atrocities and inequities against the Black community, most recently in the senseless murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. That means we have been a part of the problem. We are now joining the movement to work to dismantle the systemic structures that support inequality in this country. This is an issue of basic human rights. Black Lives Matter.
We are a brand that is built on a $25 pair of sunglasses so we will be donating $25,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund to support the work they are doing to fight for racial justice in the hope that this will help all individuals to be able to be unabashedly themselves.
As an ongoing commitment, internally, we will be looking to Black leaders in the space and creating a plan to learn about and practice anti-racism. And, we will continue to focus on representation and inclusivity in our hiring, content, and all other areas. We will continue accepting all people regardless of race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, national origin, physical or mental disability, age, culture, socioeconomic status, and, well, pretty much anything that makes us uniquely human.
We hope that you’ll join us in celebrating authenticity regardless of what that might mean for humans, flamingos, and unicorns alike.
Yours in flamingo love,
The goodr Team
