“My dad worked the evening shift for the USPS. So, he often slept all day every day. So, when my teacher asked what he did for a living, that’s what I said! The next day, some concerned officials came to investigate our home, which really scared my parents! (But it all worked out.) I only just found out about this a few years ago at a family gathering. It just reminds me that my dad sacrificed a lot to provide for us and he missed out on a lot when we were growing up. I appreciate all that he did for us.” (OK, this is terrible, but it also made us laugh, sorry Mike!)

“My Dad has been through a lot, three heart surgeries, and is still standing! His favorite line is, ‘Remember, I’m a fighter!’ This phrase means even more because it reminds me that no matter what obstacles come his way, he’s a fighter at heart, and knows he’ll overcome them. It’s also a great reminder to myself to keep pushing through, whether it’s at the gym, at work, trying new hobbies, or simply being a better version of myself. “My dad is the reason I love the water as much as I do! He taught me how to waterski and kneeboard when I was just 4 in the lakes of Michigan. He also made sure I joined the 8-and-under swim team, attempted sailing lessons (although I was more interested in just jumping off the bow), and has been a massive cheerleader for any and all water sports I’ve been into. I got to return the favor by teaching him how to surf when he came to visit me for the first time out in California. Water will always be our thing.” (Uh, can you teach us how to surf?!)

“When I was a kid, my dad would create scavenger hunts for me to find my Christmas presents. The clues ranged in difficulty from word jumbles to having to take the tire off the car to access the next clue (this was after I got a flat tire and had to call for help, so this was his way of teaching me to change it myself if it happened again). These scavenger hunts definitely sparked my love for puzzles and problem solving (and escape rooms)!” (We know who we’re calling the next time we’re trapped in a bank vault…)
