Camo Confessions Camo Confessions

We recently sat down with our Director of Innovation and Design, Richard, to talk about the inspiration behind our new Camo Confessions launch and how the collection came to life after he pitched the concept at a goodr Pitch-A-Palooza.

Q: What’s Pitch-A-Palooza?!

A: "It’s a chance for everyone at goodr to create and pitch their wild ideas: product launches, collaborations, or content ideas."

(Sidenote: If your pitch gets picked, you get to hop on stage in front of 180-ish people to present it to the WHOLE company. No pressure, haha)

Q: What sparked the idea for Cameo Confessions?

A: "Around August of 2024, camo was kind of everywhere. A *certain* pop star had really brought it back into the spotlight, blending Americana with drag, camp, and queer fashion in a way that made camo feel new. It’s traditionally so practical and utilitarian, but it has become a vehicle for personality and self-expression.

It's literally a pattern designed to help you blend in, but people were wearing it to stand out and express themselves. That contrast really stuck with me. Especially at a time when there were renewed conversations around safety and visibility in the queer community, it felt like camo had taken on a whole new meaning. That made the idea feel bigger than just another print. It felt like there was a story worth telling."

Q: What do you think made your pitch resonate with everyone in the room?

A: "There was a real 'yes, and...' energy, with people genuinely hyped and excited to see everyone’s ideas. It’s an infectious energy.

Pitch-A-Palooza has always been one of the coolest parts of our culture because it creates a direct line from an idea to something people can actually buy. Over time, that connection has felt a little less tangible, so it was incredibly rewarding to see Camo Confessions make it all the way from pitch to production."

(Sidenote: Our CEO was so entertained by Richard’s charisma, he requested that Richard be present at EVERY Pitch-A-Palooza stage moving forward.)

Q: Is there a detail, Easter egg, or design choice people might miss, but you're especially proud of?

A: "The cool thing is they’re all custom camo designs, designed and colored for goodr by goodr’s designers, not existing designs; that’s an advantage for us because we get to reinterpret them and decide what they get to look like. We had fun with the colors and patterns.”

Q: What was the moment you realized, "This isn't just an idea anymore. These are actually going to exist"?

A: "When the first samples came in. Usually, during our product review meetings, the whole room gets super excited about one or two of the pitch concepts. When these showed up, everyone was super excited. There were a lot of 'These are COOL!' comments, which was so great to see, especially since people were unsure about the concept when it was first pitched. Who doesn’t love hearing 'This is way better than we thought it would be!!'?! Haha."

Q: Is it the pitch or the product that sells more internally?

A: "Definitely the product! Often people can’t visualize what’s not right in front of them."

Q: How did the final sunglasses evolve from your original vision? Was there anything that changed along the way?

A: "We sampled a $h!t ton; it was pretty hard to narrow them down. It’s pretty close to the original pitch and production, with just enough gay magic to still appeal to the average consumer."

Q: Now that the sunglasses have launched, what's it like seeing an idea that started as a pitch become something people can actually wear?

A: "People have a perception of what Camo is, and it feels like we are expanding those boundaries."

Yes please!
