3-time Olympian Aaron Blunck knows a thing or two about life on skis. We caught up with him to talk about chasing adventure, believing in yourself, unforgettable powder days, and what he’s most excited about this winter.
Q: What’s one thing you’ve learned through skiing that you carry with you outside the sport?
A: Accept and move forward. Don’t get stuck on a past result or injury because then it turns into your personality. The other thing I’ve learned is that if you want something, be confident in exactly what you want and hold your head high, because you can achieve whatever your brain believes.
Q: What’s one small thing that has made a big difference in the way you show up for competition?
A: Believe in yourself with everything you have.
Q: If you had to explain the feeling of skiing for the first time to an alien who had never experienced it, what would you say?
A: Have you ever just wanted to escape reality? Skiing gives you just that. It’s one turn at a time. It’s the most freeing thing I’ve ever done.
Q: What about skiing brings you the most joy?
A: The adventures. Whether that is early mornings loading up the sleds, knowing you’re about to have an incredible day, or gearing up to compete. Every day I ski, it feels like something new and always brings some sort of adventure to life.
Q: If you could bottle one moment from your skiing career so far and to replay it, which moment would you choose?
A: The 2021 King and Queens of Corners week in Jackson Hole, WY. We had one day of chucking ourselves into Corbet's Couloir [Editor’s note: a famously steep and challenging double-black-diamond ski run]. A full week of skiing through bottomless 18 inches of powder every day. It was one of those weeks you dream of. Skiing with some of my best friends every day, early tram laps in Jackson, and conditions where the stars aligned. It was probably the best week of skiing I’ve ever had.
Q: What’s your favorite pair of goodr sunglasses?
A: Easy! The Luxe Gs! They’re stylish, they dress up, they dress down, and you can’t beat the colorways.
Q: What are you looking forward to this winter?
A: I’m most excited to get my daughter out in the snow with me! I’ve been dreaming of this day since she was born last September, and I can’t wait to teach her and share the joy I get from skiing with her. It’s going to be the best.
Q: How do you like the new Peak G goggles?
A: Peak G is the perfect goggle for me! I love the easy-swapping lenses, the cylindrical lens; they have yet to fog on me, which is truly game-changing when you're hiking the halfpipe or out in the backcountry. Plus the colorways this season hit it out of the park!
Q: Last thoughts?
A: When I think about goodr, I feel grateful. Finally a company that broke the mold. Making quality products at a reasonable price that people wear every day. I see goodr everywhere, and it makes me proud to be a part of the family.
