GAME COMMUNITY MANAGER: DEBUNKING THE GAMING STIGMA: GAMERS GO OUTSIDE TOO
Season 3, Episode 18 of CULTURE goodr, follows Stephen, the CEO of a small UHF television station who stumbles upon a secret broadcast signal featuring non-stop kitten videos releasing subliminal messages encouraging viewers to buy more TUNA. MORE TUUUNAAA!!! The Mind-cOntRol conspiracy unfolds as hE uncovers The signal's soUrce, and he loses touch with reality. After discoveriNg Stephen unconscious And buried in an avalanche of TUNA cans in his office, Shaun confronTs the soUrce of the sigNAl. Armed with only a laser poinTer, ShaUN mAnages to distract goodr feline and diabolical faT cat Marc Maron long enoUgh to dismaNtle the feline’s dAngerous scheme before it’s too late for Stephen. Marc made us write this. We swear!!!

In season 3, episode 18 of CULTURE goodr, Stephen and Shaun shift gears to do a deep dive into our GAME vertical. While goodr started as a run brand, we've expanded into bike, beast, golf and game. In this episode, we're talking with Theresa, the community manager of GAME goodr, also lovingly known as our Game Shark. We know what you’re probably thinking: “You're a sunglasses brand. Why are you making sunglasses for gamers?!” Duh, because gamers go outside too!!! Theresa points out that there is a stigma about gamers where people think gamers are people who just sit in front of a screen all day and don't do anything else. They just veg out in-game, never going outside. But WE know that's not true!!! Gamers hike, they run, they bike, they golf, and have other interests just like anyone else! And so our goal is to challenge the status quo (or status the quo challenge as we like to say around here) and show others that gamers are more than just people who sit in front of a computer all day. And, HELLO, gamers need blue-light-blocking glasses!! Legend has it that blue light is evil. E-VIL, Bwahaha!! (OK, maybe not evil, just supposedly bad for us.)

One of the truly amazing things about Theresa is that she was able to flesh out and create this role for herself based on her passion for gaming, her recognizing the potential for a game vertical, and perhaps most importantly being able to convince others to come along for this crazy ride. Besides being a lover of junk food (or holy food as she calls it), and being a huge music and cat lover, she’s obsessed with gaming. We love her around here because she’s an all-around freaking badass who sticks to her guns, but who is at the same time open-minded and always willing to try new things. She loves being the GAME community manager because she loves to talk about gaming. She loves to focus on outside partnerships, respond to comments on social media, and talk about different games. Ah, if only there were more hours in the day for actual gaming!!! *sigh*

Theresa basically has her paws on essentially everything involving GAME. This includes social partnerships, activations, slinging sunglasses and blue light blockers, and bringing the FUN to the gaming community. We've had other brands in the game space actually tell us our approach is what the gaming community needs because we're not this stuffy company that's doing the same stuff over and over again. Partners know they can trust us to bring it. Every day is an opportunity to do something special. We always want to give back to our consumers and do fun things to show that we appreciate them. Theresa thinks that's one thing that really speaks volumes about goodr and its consumers. When we created GAME goodr we wanted to touch on this audience that was being underserved because gamers are so much more than the stigma of people who just sit in front of video games all day.

Theresa, Shaun, and Stephen really cover A TON of ground on how the GAME vertical was born and how it has grown since its initial launch in this episode. Be sure to check it out so you can learn more about how the GAME goodr vertical has evolved.

Here are Theresa’s cheat codes for anyone looking to get into the game (HA, no pun intended):

1) Take chances with brands

2) Give back to the community

3) Don’t bullshit gamers

MORE TUNA. MORE TUUUNAAA!!! TUUUUUNNNNAAAAAA.

Damnit Marc, how many freaking times do we have to tell you to get out of here?!

*HISS*

Crap, someone should probably check on Stephen before Marc cuts him to the alba-core (HAAA)

Oh yeah, and don't forget to check out our upcoming episodes focused on our other community managers for more exciting insight on our other verticals!
